The major strengths of AOL are its strong security aspects and support for statistical analysis of questions. AOL does not require any client software other than a Web browser for its online version and hence is easy to use with any existing network in a campus to administer tests. AOL will also be available as a client programme that can be used to administer question papers that have been sent to the student through email. The student can then connect and send the answer papers for evaluation.

AOL has a high degree of security built into it to prevent unauthorized users from tampering with questions in the system.

AOL allows one to easily compute statistics for the questions used by the system. These statistics help the question designer to identify and improve weak questions and discard ones that are bad. Such detailed item analysis is not easy to achieve in a conventional testing environment.

Other major features of AOL include randomisation of questions and choices, generation of hard copies, question bank management, quiz management and online test administration.
